The materials on this page are excerpted from my early attempts to write about and move with Loïe Fuller. Matters of Tact (published in Dance Research Journal, Fall 2004) was my first attempt to articulate the theoretical implications of my embodied approach to history. Acts of Passion was a performative lecture in which I interrupted an academic discussion with dancing that pairs my movement with slide images of Fuller's dancing. Moving back and forth across the stage to a sound score of poetic texts about Fuller, my body flashes onto the screen. In these moments, Fuller's image is joined by my image, creating a complex duet involving interpretation, interconnection, and reflection. Anne Loyer, the designer of the site has deftly blended all the elements of text, sound, and motion to create an imaginative intersection of the past and the present. |
