A set of five tablas belonging to American Composer Henry Cowell (1897-1965), who was in India studying at the Music Academy in Madras (present-day Chennai) in 1956-57 on a Rockefeller grant. His Symphony No. 13, Madras, utilizing the tabla, was composed in 1956-58.

Acquired by the generous donation of Martha Hinrichsen, CEO/President of C. F. Peters Corporation, Cowell's publisher.
