Rara: Vodou, Power and Performance in Haiti and Its Disapora

The aim of this Learning Object is to present audio and visual materials on Rara, an annual religious and political musical festival in Haiti. There is presently only one scholarly monograph on Rara, which is my book, Rara! Vodou, Power and Performance in Haiti and its Diaspora. There is little video footage available to the public on Rara, and few photographs. This website presents such data for teaching, for scholarly use by researchers, and as a source of information for Caribbean festival artists themselves. The site combines various data sources relating to my work in Haiti from 1991 - 1995, including: 1. Still photographs 2. video footage 3. audio tracks 4. excerpts from my book 5. meta-reflections on fieldwork.
